Lady of Good Hope

The 1817 slave register for John Tharp's Good Hope estate lists two individuals whose mother was called Lady: Elizabeth (b. 1807), who was described as Mulatto, and Billy (b. 1812). Later returns add Susan (2nd of December 1817-1820) and Marina (b. 1821).

Lady's age was estimated as 29 (b. 1788) in 1817, and the 1826 return recorded her death at the age of 38.

Elizabeth was one of three women of the same name who may have been the mother of Allick (b. 1823). He was also described as Mulatto, and if this Elizabeth was his mother (and assuming that the colour descriptions were used with precision), his father would also have been described in the same way. His other possible mothers are discussed in a post called 'Three women called Hannah on Good Hope'.
